What makes this form of social media effective?
These are questions that are important as we explore various forms of writing in public relations.

Your job: Write a post that is a critique of your organization's public relations use of social media. Write it here in 100 words with these three sections: what is valuable about it, what could be improved, and then end with something positive about its use of social media.

Canon puts out press releases fairly often and they are always well written and informational. The releases are in the correct AP format too. However, Canon usually only writes about new products they have released or will be releasing.
ReplyDeleteIt would be better to see how companies and individuals who buy them are using these products. One cool thing about their releases is that they always post about humanitarian projects they are involved with.
McDonald’s uses social media effectively by posting onto Twitter consistently. This allows consumers like me to keep up with their ever-changing meals.
ReplyDeleteThey can improve their use of social media by promoting their food more, and educating their followers about their nutrition facts.
I appreciate the way they are interactive, and respond to some of their consumers. I tweeted and suggested that they should have all they breakfast, and they tweeted me back and said, “All day breakfast, that sounds good, but for now we will serve all day breakfast.”
I thought this was pretty awesome since most big organizations don’t respond directly to consumers.
Apple does a great job of informing its customers of new products and any announcement’s the company may have.

Since Apple is constantly releasing new products for us to try, it is important that the company in fact stay up-to-date on any information their customers may need to know.
Along with information on the products, apple also display’s images of the new products for us to see before they have hit the shelves. With the expansion of online shopping, this is a great way for apple to reveal its products and information to us online as well.
Dunkin Donuts uses social media as a platform to promote new products, receive feedback on products and locations, and help customers with any issues they have.
ReplyDeleteThey have accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. I have noticed that they constantly update their accounts.
It could be improved by updating their followers on their products a little more. They focus more on customer service, which is good, but they should post more about what they sell.
Their social media accounts are very interactive with followers. They frequently write back and give away things through contests, making people like me want to keep checking back for new posts.
Overall, Dunkin does a great job updating their social media and they make it easy for us to keep up to date with them.

ReplyDeleteThe Disney Parks Blog posts park updates, and park-goers post about their recent trips. This creates a valuable platform where Disney promotes its newest features and gets customer feedback.
Bloggers post whenever they want, sometimes creating more than eight posts a day. A reader might scroll through pages to find a post from last week. To improve the site, a regulated posting schedule would help, so that readers are not overwhelmed.
The images are one of the best features to the blog. The author can post a picture they took, or use a professional picture. Most of the resulting images are high quality and attention grabbing.
The ALS Organization uses social media to not only promote the organization itself, but to educate audiences on the importance of their cause: to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for this disease.

While the ALS Association took over social media last summer, launching the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, it would be beneficial to feature more stories of real time patients and caregivers.
Each and every day the ALS organization grows one step closer to achieving its goal of finding a cure.

The MSPCA- Angell Headquarters recently updated their use of social media.
ReplyDeleteThe MSPCA updates their Press Room approximately twice a week, which is valuable to readers and animal advocates. Also, the organization regularly tweets and posts on Facebook. They are often trying to gain attention from major news stations.
Although MSPCA updates their social media a lot, they only use it as one-way communication. They need to be more interactive with their followers, and serve more two-way communication. It is clear
On the other hand, MSPCA is successful at gaining attention and “like” on their social media posts. They have a lot of passionate followers, and advocate for a worthy cause.
The Ninety-Nine Restaurant & Pub uses social media to invite guests to try whatever plate is of note. The organization uses the social media platform to invite guests in, make noise about their food, and promote special opportunities, such as free gift cards.
ReplyDeleteTheir social media is not perfect, however, as it appears they cannot properly break out of the common restaurant social media mold. There is nothing unique from their page to others in competing businesses.
On the contrary, Ninety-Nine effectively uses images of food and drinks to entice guests, as well as create useful awareness regarding promotions or products that are noteworthy.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) promotes itself over many facets of social media. Specifically, on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google, and Instagram.
ReplyDeleteOn each account, viewers can find updates on the newest CF medicinal discoveries, videos of real people living with CF, and even opportunities to get involved with the foundation.
An area that could be improved would be on the foundation’s personal website. Its homepage in particular has a lot going on. A simpler setup would be less overwhelming for its visitors, benefitting the foundation’s façade.
Overall, the CFF does a great job making itself known across social media.
Amazon's use of social media is quite effective. The posts appear frequently and stand out among other advertisements. Use of color, and straight to the point slogans attract consumers.
ReplyDeleteTheir social media strategies are very inviting. The products are emphasized well by distinct voices used in public service announcements.
Improvement could potentially be used within the variety of sites they choose to advertise on. Instead of only Facebook and Twitter, expanding to Instagram and Snapchat could be beneficial.
The overall success of Amazon's social media advertising has been compelling. Offering discounts specifically for college students has been a great contributor to this.
NFL Teams uses Social Media to Engage their Fans

The relationship between NFL teams and social media platforms have become a beautiful thing. All season long football fans flock to television, cell phones and tablets to keep up with the latest updates concerning their favorite teams and players. NFL teams are using social media not only as a way to establish their brand and increase their reach but also as a source of engagement and interaction. Every NFL team in the league has a Facebook, Twitter and Instagram account, and most also have a Snapchat. Although the NFL takes social media by storm, they could improve on one thing, more teams could certainly offer more game day packages for those die hard fans out there. Now teams have to not only worry about performing on the field but on social media as well.
Standish Humane Society uses social media as a platform to promote new awareness, adoptions and information on upcoming event.
ReplyDeleteThey have and account on Facebook and they also have a website. They update Facebook but could include more informational posts.
It could be improved by updating their followers on their adoptions, events and information on how to donate and adopt.
Their social media accounts are fairly interactive with followers. They respond and write back to their followers.
Overall, Standish Humane Society does well with their management of social media but could create a twitter and instagram account while using a mix of informative, community and active posts.
